I recently read through Education Week’s “Revisiting the Most Popular Stories of 2010” list and was generally disenchanted. This is not to say it’s a bad list, rather it didn’t represent my work and passions in democratic and alternative education. After a few days of jogging my memory, looking through a few ‘cheat sheets,’ and asking around I now present to you my ‘Best of Democratic Education’ list for 2010. I’ve organized the links into a few categories with no ranking system (I wouldn’t want Alfie Kohn to get mad).

International Democratic Education Conference 2006 (Free, 20 Minutes)

Daniel Swart, an AERO intern, put together a short documentary (free video below) on the 2006 International Democratic Education Conference (IDEC) held in Sydney, Australia. The documentary comes from about three hours of video that Jerry Mintz shot there. It really gives the flavor of the IDEC. It has shots of the school and surroundings, including the Sydney skyline at dawn. It also has scenes of basketball, the picture displays, kid introductions, Internet session, Korean and Nepali dancing, Japanese singing and piano, kids baseball with cricket sticks, the anti-war slide show, group singing, meetings, etc. To order this DVD, visit www.educationrevolution.org/idec2006dvd.html
